Etiquette & Guidelines
(Especially if it’s your first class.) This allows time to find a space, unroll your mat and collect your props (any blankets, bolsters, blocks or straps you need) without disturbing anyone. Doors are locked at the start time of every class and we wouldn’t want you to miss out.
PLAN TO STAY FOR THE WHOLE CLASS.
If you must leave early, let the teacher know, and do it before savasana, the period of final relaxation at the end of class. Again, this is to not disturb your classmates during a key part of class — experts often say savasana is the most important and challenging pose in yoga.
LEAVE YOUR SHOES OUTSIDE THE PRACTICE SPACE.
Yoga is practiced barefoot. It is easier to ground into the practice if your feet are making contact with the mat. You can use our student storage room to store personal belongings. This also helps us keep our practice space as clean as possible and free of dirt.
LEAVE YOUR CELLPHONE AND OTHER DEVICES OUTSIDE THE ROOM.
This is so you can fully disconnect and others won’t be disturbed. We also ask you to remember to silence them. If you have extenuating circumstances let the teacher know but please leave all devices on silent.
BRING YOUR OWN MAT.
LYW does provide all other props necessary for your practice but we encourage you to bring your own mat. If you are visiting for the first time or are from out of town, we can provide you with a mat to borrow.
AVOID PERFUME OR SCENTED LOTION.
Yoga is a breathing practice. Please refrain from heavy scents that could be overwhelming and sometimes aggravating to other students.
WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING APPROPRIATE FOR THE CLASS.
You want something comfortable that you can move in that isn’t prone to a wardrobe malfunction or to bunching up and getting in your way: think stretchy, breathable fabrics.
FEEL FREE TO LET THE INSTRUCTOR KNOW ABOUT ANY PHYSICAL ISSUES AND PREFERENCES.
If you are working through an issue or avoiding certain postures due to an injury please let the teacher know. They may be able to offer modifications. If you have preferences for or against hands on adjustments let the teacher know prior to class.
CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF.
LYW provides thieves, traditional sanitizers and towels for you to clean mats and props if necessary. Please always clean any mat that you borrow from our prop room.
